My Thinking on Public Writing

Chingyi Abby Lai

Meaning

Throughout my growth, I’ve often asked myself: if most people, my close friends, and family aren’t interested about my articles, why should I write?

After years of reflection, I’ve come to realize that while these articles may not be particularly helpful to readers with different backgrounds, personalities, or goals, they can help those with similar careers or interests better understand me, and perhaps spark meaningful and interesting connections.

For me, writing for even just one such reader and for myself is enough to keep going. As someone who truly enjoys reading blog posts, I find it deeply rewarding and joyful to share reflections from different stages of my growth journey

Risks

For writing to have depth and soul, it often requires drawing from personal life experiences. However, this kind of self-disclosure carries the risk of inadvertently exploiting or involving others, which is something I need to remain mindful of.

Motivation

For as long as I can remember, I’ve been energetic, creative, and deeply curious about the world. Since elementary school, I’ve gradually developed a strong drive to turn creativity into a profession.

Over nearly 20 years of growth, I’ve continuously reflected on and acted upon one central question: How can I sustainably grow within the fields of humanities and the arts in a low-cost way, while ensuring my own well-being and continuing to contribute to society?

The reason this question matters is simple: pursuing a path in art and design involves inherent financial risks. Without access to relevant resources or networks, I’ve had to take a more proactive and deliberate approach to constantly explore viable options and take responsibility for every decision I make.

Through this blog, I hope to share insights and experiences related to UX, UI, and Product Design, documenting what I encounter along this journey. I want to give confidence to those who are also interested in this field, and satisfy the curiosity of those who want to know me.

About Me

When someone chooses to write publicly, they can decide whether to reveal their identity or remain anonymous. After careful thought, I’ve come to believe that sharing the writer’s background helps readers quickly assess the value of the content.

By understanding the core themes and challenges in a writer’s life, readers can better evaluate the credibility of the ideas presented, as well as how applicable those ideas are to their own situations.

So, in this first post, I’d like to briefly introduce myself:
Hi, I’m Abby, a UX/UI/Product Designer with 4 years of experience (AI, apps, and platforms). I majored in Anthropology, with interdisciplinary studies in Innovation Design and Entrepreneurship. As of 2026, I’m preparing to pursue a Master’s degree in Interaction Design in Canada.

Through this blog, I hope to share meaningful moments and reflections from my life, as well as learning notes I find valuable. In this way, I can fulfill my desire to connect with others, help more people get to know me, and create opportunities to learn about others in return.

So, let’s begin 🥳
